April 22nd, 2015

One of the key support races on the A.D. Hollindale Stakes Day card on Saturday, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m) will get things underway as Race 1 at 11:42am (AEST).

Sitting top of the field in barrier seven with Justin Stanley to ride is the John Zielke-trained Worthy Cause from the Sunshine Coast, the Choisir colt boasting Group 3 form at the track.

Last December he was third past the post in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) and comes off a win on a Soft-rated Doomben track only last Saturday putting him on the short seven day back-up this weekend.

Brisbane’s leading trainer Rob Heathcote also saddles up two last start winners in Fusina and Gid Up Strop drawn in gates eight and nine respectively.

Nicconi gelding Fusina shoots for his third straight race, Glen Colless riding this weekend after the horse saluted on a Heavy (10) track at the Sunshine Coast earlier in the month.

Gid Up Strop has ace Queensland jockey Damian Browne staying on after the duo won over the Doomben mile on April 11.

The horses that ran second and third behind Gid Up Strop last time out are also accepted for a rematch on Saturday with the Ben Aherns-trained Chillin With Dylan from Beaudesert and Gerald Ryan’s Sydney raider Brewery.

Also coming off wins are the Sam Kavanagh-trained Invinzabeel (barrier two) and the Peter Moody-trained duo of Ulmann (barrier one) and Upham (barrier four).

A son of I Am Invincible, Invinzabeel comes off a 1600m Warwick Farm win from April 8.

Moody’s pair meanwhile is sure to feature high up the markets at with Kerrin McEvoy riding Upham and Luke Nolen aboard Sebring colt Ulmann who he rode to victory at Sandown-Lakeside over the mile last time out.

It will be a tight betting battle with a host of other livewire chances in the race, many of which head towards the $600,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby (2200m) at Doomben Racecourse on Stradbroke Handicap Day, June 6.
