John Zielke’s Group 3 placed colt Worthy Cause is one of the headline nominations for the Gunsynd Classic 2015 on the Gold Coast this weekend.
A host of Group races headline the Queensland racing action for AD Hollindale Stakes Day this Saturday, including the three-year-olds facing off in the $125,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m).
Nominations for the set weights race are extended until 9am on Tuesday after only 12 early entries were received on Monday morning.
One of those is the Sunshine Coast-based Worthy Cause, a son of Choisir best known for running third behind Mywayorthehighway in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at the Gold Coast in late December last year.
This time in he has had three runs, most recently over 1350m at Doomben just last Saturday when winning a three-year-old handicap on a Soft (5) track by nearly four lengths in impressive style.
He will look to bring that same form back just seven days later then in the Gunsynd when having his second run at the Gold Coast.
This year’s Gunsynd Classic nominations meanwhile are headed by a quartet from the Peter Moody stables led by Inauguration.
The Authorized gelding was last seen running third in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 6.
The Carbine Club Stakes form was franked last Saturday back at the track when the winner Hi World completed a Group 3 double taking out the Frank Packer Plate.
Moody also has his Tavistock filly Imperial Lass coming off a run behind Hi World when she was third over 1600m at Warwick Farm on March 25.
His two other Gunsynd nominees are then last start winners Ulmann and Upham who both won over 1600m last time out at Sandown-Lakeside and Wyong respectively.
Last year’s Gunsynd Classic winner was the Robert Heathcote-trained Hopfgarten who made it four straight victories with his win over Avalanches when the race ran at Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Heathcote returns seeking back-to-back victories in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival lead-up then in 2015 having entered for Nicconi gelding Fusina who has winning form up to 2020m and Gid Up Strop coming off a mile win at Doomben a fortnight ago on Saturday.
Also worth a note are Gerald Ryan’s up-and-comer Brewery rising in class for this, Beaudesert-based Chillin With Dylan also on the improve and Jason McLachlan’s Stratum filly Game Of Fame who was 10th in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) to Set Square in Melbourne during the spring.
The current Gunsynd Classic 2015 nominations are detailed below with the final acceptances taken on Wednesday morning.
