Gunsynd Classic

The Gunsynd Classic is a Group 3 race that is run at Eagle Farm racecourse on the first weekend of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival in Queensland. Run over a distance of 1,600 metres, the Gunsynd Classic is held under set weight conditions. The Gunsynd Classic is worth $125,000 in prize money and is open to three-year-old horses only.

The next Gunsynd Classic will take place on Saturday April 30, 2016.

The Gunsynd Classic is a great race for three-year-olds that are looking to begin their Brisbane Winter Carnival campaigns. Those horses that run in the race often go on to compete in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate in two weeks’ time or the Group 3 Lord Mayors Cup a week after. This then usually leads to the Group 1 Queensland Derby, which takes place in June and is worth $500,000 in prize money. The Gunsynd Classic takes place on the same day as the Group 2 Victory Stakes and the Listed Tails Quality.

Notable winners of the Gunsynd Classic include Matsqui (1995), Tobruk (1999),  Belmonte (2006), Pepperwood (2008), and Za Magic (2009).
